I have been a little excited lately… mainly due to completing a couple of knitting projects which I had been putting off but also because one of my yarns has been featured in a pattern.
First up… In my last post I mentioned the knitted periodic table project. Well I was lucky enough to secure Nitrogen as my element. I wanted it because it’s atomic number is seven… my lucky number! (well it hasn’t really been all that lucky for me but I still like to think of it as my lucky number) and as we all know getting your nitrogen levels right can make a world of difference to your garden. You can tell I’ve become middle aged can’t you… babbling about numerology and gardening.
Anyway I knew I had committed to knitting the square but I had forgotten when the due date for it was. Luckily they sent out a polite but firm reminder and I put my A into G and got it completed. Here is what the finished square looks like.
I’ll let you know when the project is all finished and hopefully post a picture of all the squares sewn together. Who would have thought chemistry could have been this much fun… I certainly didn’t think it was in High School.
Next up… I was tasked with piecing together all the knitted squares for the latest friendship quilt for the Friday Night Sock club. I never seem to take the easy option of just sewing them together, instead I knit strips of honeycomb cable and then sew the squares to those. It takes a considerable greater amount of time to get the job done but I love the finished result. Here is a close up of the honeycomb edging and then one of the finished quilt.
I hope Marnie (the recipient) likes it!... And with no rest for the wicked we’ve started on the next friendship quilt already. I’m hoping to stay ahead of the game this time by knitting the strips in advance which will make the piecing together so much faster… well here’s hoping it will anyway!
Finally… My Merino Mania yarn is becoming more famous by the month. The lastest issue of the online knitting magazine Knitty has been released and features a pattern using my yarn. The pattern is designed by Dagmar Mora and is called Spatterdash. It looks fantastic and really shows off the merino mania yarn to great effect.
The Carrot Cake colourway featured is long gone but I do have a similar one called Fallen. The second colourway featured was Summer Breeze and that along with Fallen is available in the store.
I can’t tell you how exciting it is that a designer would choose to create and promote a pattern using one of my yarns… I’d also have to say what great taste they had in selecting my yarn too… but then I am slightly biased.
I still have to keep hush hush about this but a book is about to be published very soon which will feature my yarns too! I’ll share more details as I’m allowed.
